Blue, how I love this color! For me it reminds me of my favorite place – the ocean with its blue water against the blue skies. Blue is so relaxing, calming and soothing. It is no wonder that blue is associated with the sky, ocean and water. It is often associated with stability, depth and peace. Blue is the symbol for knowledge, intelligence, wisdom and truth. Blue is said to cause a calming effect in the body and is very relaxing. It can slow the body’s metabolism and heart rate.
Blue can promote cleanliness, air and sky, water and sea. Which makes blue is a popular color for water filters, airlines, airports, cruise lines. As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red and orange, blue is cool. It is also used to promote high tech companies and products. Dark blue is associated with expertise and stability.
Along with calming effect, blue can also suppress your appetite. So its not the best color to use with food and cooking.
Blue is also seen as a sign of depression or apathy. It also can represent the cold and winter. But when teamed up with red or yellow, blue can be high-impact and vibrant. Think Superman.
It is also said that blue rooms are more productive. As a commercial designer I have run into many executives who wanted their offices blue, is it a masculine thing for those that were men. Is there truth that it can make you more productive, or is it just because it is a relaxing color. Nobody can say for sure but it is a popular color.
